Tired, Alone, and Lonely - Wednesday February 24, 2016
You are the God who sees me. Genesis 16:13 NLT
I want to tell you a personal story about living coram Deo, before the face of God. I was in Taiwan in 2004 with a team doing some mission work. It was the time that the Indonesian tsunami hit, and 200,000 people lost their lives. An emergency team of 10 of us in Taiwan decided to go to Sri Lanka to investigate and evaluate the destruction.

I was in my hotel room on my last day in Sri Lanka. Everyone else had gone. I was exhausted from the Taiwan mission trip and overwhelmed by the scene of horrible destruction and death in Sri Lanka.

There I was – tired, alone, and lonely. I took a walk on the beach. Up the shore a little way was this lady who started walking towards me. She was very nicely dressed, a very attractive woman.

This unknown woman and I started having a conversation. I was kind of oblivious to what was about to happen. I said, "Hey, I'm an American, I'm looking at the country, I'm here to help bring the Gospel." To me, we were just having a conversation, passing the time of day.

Then the pretty lady asked me, "You're here all by yourself, right?" I said, "Yeah, I am, I'm here all by myself." "Aren't you lonely?" she probed. I said, "Well, it's not too bad, I'm about to go home tomorrow." She said, "Would you like some company?" I still didn't quite get it. "No, I'm OK, I don't need anything." She said, "Would you like to have somebody come to your room? I can arrange that for you." Suddenly I found myself in a Joseph and Potiphar's wife situation. Have you found yourself taken by surprise by temptation? Remember Genesis 16:13!
