Love Yourself - Sunday March 01, 2015
And the second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Matthew 22:39 NIV
A way of rephrasing today's verse, the second commandment, would be: "love someone like you would want to be loved in that situation." How would I want to be loved if the tables were turned?

What if you accidently said or did something that hurt someone's feelings? Would you want them to hold a grudge and ignore you? Or start gossiping about you and slandering you? Of course not! You would want them to approach you and explain how their feelings were hurt.

What if you owned a company with a handful of employees? Would you want those employees to take office supplies home with them? Would you want them to lie on their timesheets? Would you want them to spend most of their day on Facebook? Of course not! You would want your employees to work hard earning their wages.

What if you ran out of gas on the side of the road and your phone died? Would you want people to drive by for an hour ignoring you? Of course not! You would want someone to stop and help.

What if something discouraging happened in your life? Would you want people to ignore you? Of course not! You would want people to tell you they were praying for you. What if something encouraging happened to you? Again, you wouldn't want people to ignore you. You would want them to rejoice with you!

Think through situations around you and ask yourself, "How should Jesus words 'love your neighbor as yourself' impact my actions towards the people around me?"
