Lord, What Would You Want Me To Do? - Saturday March 28, 2015
The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 NIV
Recently, I was encouraged by an article that Gary Roys, a good friend of mine, submitted to our church newsletter. I wanted to pass his story on, hoping that it will encourage and spur you on toward love and good deeds.

Gary writes: "I've been friends with a learning-disabled Christian-not part of the Stonebrook family-for 25 years now, sometimes doing a Bible study together, sometimes just listening, sometimes lending a hand. Because he knows that he's not in control of his life, he is quick to pray, "Lord, what would you want me to do in this situation?" And he's taught me to do likewise sometimes.

"When I found out that the family had really struggled with their high heating bills last winter, I wondered if I couldn't recruit some fellows to get firewood for them-the more they can feed the woodstove, the less often the furnace needs to run. I put out a call for some helpers and soon had a crew-six guys and three pickups. We donated one Saturday morning and blessed my friend's family with three heaping pickup-loads of oak firewood.

"It didn't take too long. It will make some difference. None of the five men who came alongside me had any stake in this family's well-being. No obligation. No expectation of pay-back. I went back with some other helpers today, and with a log-splitter, we got it split and stacked. Another half-day of making a difference. Feels good."

As Jesus said to one man, "Go and do the same" (Luke 10:37).
