April Showers - Saturday April 11, 2015
For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV
Spring time in Utah! One minute the sun is shining, the next minute it's raining or even snowing. I love it. You have heard the expression, "April showers bring May flowers." I read a classic verse recently in Isaiah that reminds me of this.

Think about what the verses above are saying. You can't stop the rain or the purposes God has for rain. There is no government or group on the earth that can stop the rain or snow. God has a plan for that rain and snow, and it's to water the earth. God's purpose is that it will nourish plants that provide bread for mankind. God's precipitation and vegetation plans are powerful and unstoppable!

In the same way, God's Word is powerful and unstoppable. Think about it: the Bible is as irresistible and effective as the rain and snow we are experiencing right now in Utah! You can't stop the rain, and you can't stop God's Word.

Knowing this raises the question, are we exposing ourselves to God's Word? Do we listen to it being faithfully taught each week in church? As different brothers faithfully preach God's Word, do we let it fall on us like rain, nourishing and feeding our souls? And day to day, do we open our Bibles and read it? Let's approach God's Word like thirsty plants!
