The Wedding Planner - Sunday June 08, 2014
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23 NLT
It is the month of June-a season known for weddings and graduations. If you are on the planning end of the event, it can also mean a time of busyness and stress. Recently I was reading in John 2 and loved the story of Jesus attending a friend's wedding. What I appreciate most is that this was where He chose to perform His very first miracle. He could have raised someone from the dead or cast out a demon, but instead He used the occasion to send this message: He cares about the details of our lives. The things that matter to us also matter to Him. Jesus took the time to make someone's wedding more special, simply because He delights in showering us with His goodness. It is a reminder to me of the exhortation in Philippians 4:6-7 to "not be anxious about anything, but in everything, with prayers and supplications, let your requests be made known to God." I do a pretty good job of taking the big stuff to God, because I know it is way out of my league. But I tend to fret and strive when it comes to all the little things that come up, and I forget to ask for help.

The other thing that encourages me about this story is that Jesus transforms the ordinary. He used water to create some pretty exceptional wine. Similarly, He can take my ordinary life on an ordinary day and use it for something special. Think about these truths as you attend celebrations this month. Better yet, think about them on average days and remember that Jesus is involved and cares about whatever concerns you.
