Bearing Sin - Tuesday June 09, 2015
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. 1 Peter 2:24 ESV
When you experience tragedy in your family or church, you may come to understand the heart of Christ more deeply. Being unable to act to change a situation or another's wrong decision leaves one in a dark place. Here is how I have seen Christ in such a valley of loss.

"You lie there on the cross, Lord, so helpless. You cannot do anything. You no longer teach or command demons or do miracles. You give Your mother a new son. Then You just try to breathe.

"You do not prevent sin. You do not intervene in people's lives. You do not rebuke hypocrites. You do not instruct Your disciples.

"You just hang there between heaven and earth, bearing sin. You bear others' sin. You bear mine. You just take it. You do not resist the horror and the weight of it, the blackness. You feel the pathos in every fiber of Your being. You ache. You bleed. You cry to the Father. You die.

"Sin kills you. You choose this death, to die Yourself.

"Make me like you. Help me to bear with others' sin that hurts me. Help me to bear deception, dishonesty, betrayal, abandonment, as You did, entrusting Yourself to the Father. Help me to accept my helplessness like You did. You bore rejection in Your body on the tree: rejection from Your own people, from the world, all the rejection mankind has known. You hung there all alone, bearing that.

"Thank You for the high privilege of sharing in the suffering of the Christ, Son of the living God. You only, helpless One, are the Savior of all mankind."
