The Magic Place - Tuesday July 02, 2013
Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it." He was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven." Genesis 28:16-17
What is it that makes us so enamored with places? I understand that when an historic event has taken place we want to remember the location, so we build a monument at that site. For example, war memorials are built because we need to remember those who paid the highest price and gave their lives for a noble cause. We also erect statues of famous sports heroes where they accomplished their feats. We have a large statue of Henry (Hank) Aaron in Atlanta, Georgia, outside of the Braves stadium. He set numerous batting and fielding records and made the All Star team twenty years in a row, so he was immortalized at the place where he set these records. They even saved a piece of the fence where he hit his famous 715th home run.

The Samaritan woman, who came to faith in Jesus, was preoccupied with places. "Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." Jesus told her the place was irrelevant, but "the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:20, 23-24).

It is not the place that is holy to a Christian, but it is the person of God! God seeks people to be true worshipers. Will you be this person today-everywhere you go?
