Indestructible Bible - 2 - Thursday July 23, 2015
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. . . . Hebrews 4:12 ESV
I was having a discussion with an atheist last year. He told me, "Hitler was a Christian." I said, "Surely, you can't be serious!" But he was. He was also dead wrong. I read the history book, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. I learned that during the war Alfred Rosenberg (one of Hitler's right-hand men) formulated a program for the German Church. His plan included exclusive control over all churches and demanded the immediate cessation of the publishing and dissemination of the Bible. Churches were ordered to clear away from their altars all crosses and Bibles. On the altars there could be nothing but Mein Kampf and, to the left of the altar, a sword.
Hitler conquered Europe, tried to banish the Bible, and murdered many godly Christians. But today Hitler is dead, the Nazi empire is gone, and the Bible continues.
Think about Stalin and the Communists. By education, law, ridicule, and persecution they sought to blot out all knowledge of the Bible from the Soviet empire-but they were unsuccessful. Decades ago Christians had to smuggle Bibles into Russia. But now it is 2015, the Bible is in Russia, and I know Christians in Russia right now openly preaching the gospel.
The Bible tells us it is indestructible, and history bears that out. Not only is it not an antique, it is changing lives. It is living and active. But what if our Bible was taken away by the government? Don't take it for granted. Memorize it. Hide it in your heart! Don't be apathetic.
