They Divide My Garments - Wednesday July 29, 2015
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Micah 5:2 ESV
The fourth evidence for the Bible is that it contains numerous fulfilled prophecies. If the Bible is written by a God who is beyond space and time, He has the ability to inspire the human authors to write things about the future. And what an incredible "fingerprint" of God. There are literally hundreds of prophecies in the Old and New Testament. Here are just two examples.

Around 700 BC, the prophet Micah said that Bethlehem would be the birthplace of Israel's Messiah. You remember Joseph and Mary didn't even live in Bethlehem! God had to orchestra world events to get them there! He got a pregnant woman to Bethlehem, to fulfill this prophecy.

Psalm 22, written hundreds of years before crucifixion was even invented, says: "For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet-I can count all my bones-they stare and gloat over me; they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots" (Psalm 22:16-18 ESV). King David talked about the Messiah's death in words that describe crucifixion perfectly. This is from 1,000 BC. He even wrote about Jesus' garments!

There are fulfilled prophecies in the Bible about the nation of Israel and its restoration, about world empires, about famous kings, and about ancient cities. The Bible contains hundreds of prophecies written hundreds of years before the events occurred! How amazing!
