Not One Dotting of the i - Tuesday August 18, 2015
Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I said, you are gods'? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came-and Scripture cannot be broken-do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?" John 10:34-36 ESV
The seventh and final evidence of the Bible's veracity is that it is affirmed by Jesus. Let's look at an interaction in today's passage between Jesus and a hostile crowd. Jesus has just declared that He and the father are one. The crowd picks up stones to kill Him. And Jesus defends himself by quoting the Old Testament.

What is Jesus' view of scripture? His whole argument with the crowd in John 10 is based on one word in one verse-the word "gods" in Psalm 82:6. Does Jesus have a low view or high view of Scripture? He has a high view. He even says the Scripture cannot be broken! The Bible is flawless! This statement by Jesus is an absolute affirmation of the Bible's authority and validity, every single word.

But Jesus takes it even beyond that. Look at Matthew 5:18: "For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished" (ESV). Here Jesus refers to the small letter, and the smallest pen stroke in the Hebrew alphabet. In our vernacular we would say, "Not one dotting of the i or crossing of the t will disappear until all is accomplished."

I once had a coworker say, "You don't believe the Bible is the literal word of God, do you?" How do I respond? Jesus says that nothing in the Bible, not even the smallest stroke of a pen, is unimportant! It is the literal truth.
