Share My Towel Rack? - Wednesday August 20, 2014
And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16
God has a sense of humor when it comes to training His children to share. I deduced this when I noticed that someone in our household had started hanging a white towel alongside mine on the towel rack over the bathtub in our upstairs bathroom. That spot is reserved for my hand towel! There are two hooks in the bathroom and a standing floor rack for my husband's towel. How dare someone "move in on" my towel rack?

To give you the larger picture I will tell you that my handicapped mother moved in with us a year and a half ago at our invitation, and we gave her our convenient downstairs bedroom with its adjoining bathroom. We took over our daughter Amy's upstairs bedroom since she is long gone. (The fireplace is very pleasant!) We invited our son Daniel and his little family to move in with us last December since they are in transition between the missionary field and American life, finding a job and buying a house here in Kansas. Getting to know our two Taiwan-raised grandchildren has been a great joy, not to mention time with their parents! We have shared the upstairs bathroom and living space comfortably.

So why should sharing my towel rack make me feel violated? Maybe because it's involuntary. It's easier to share when it's our decision; we feel like we are in control that way; our ownership is not questioned. I'm still not sure whose towel it is. But I'm sure whose heart God is targeting. "Be more generous, willing to share more," He is saying to me. "Have I shared with you?" He asks. "Yes, Lord."
