A Farmer's Field - Friday August 24, 2012
Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed...Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times. Mark 4:3,8 NIV
We have a farmer, some seed and a field. What does the farmer do? He works the field. He makes the soil fertile. He pours his sweat and blood into the soil and readies it for something special-the seed. He sows the seed. The seed dies and is buried. Some seeds are young, some old. Some are "good," some are "bad." But they all die. They disappear.

Where do these seeds go? Are they gone? What happens to them underground? Day after day the farmer looks at the field and sees nothing. Until one day! That glorious day the seeds pop their heads up and catch the warmth of the rays of the sun and drink in the droplets of rain. Are these tiny plants the seeds the farmer planted? They don't look like it-but they must be! The seeds are transformed and they grow-first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain. Finally it is Hay Day-it's harvest time. The farmer smiles. It was worth the sweat, the blood, and the wait. It is time to celebrate.

This is like the Kingdom of God! The whole world started as a garden and now is a field. Seeds have been planted in the ground in this field. The Farmer has poured His sweat and blood in His field, and then He waits. He waits for that glorious day-it is on its way-Resurrection Day! And it will be beautiful like nothing ever seen. We-the seeds-will marvel at the dawn of a new day. But mostly we will marvel at the Farmer.
