Lessons from Jesus-1 - Saturday September 08, 2012
Just as the Father has loved Me, I have loved you. Abide in my love. John 15:9
Lately I have felt a bit blah in my quiet times, and I have found that nothing helps better than spending time in the gospels. Over the next few days, I will share some things I am learning from the life of Jesus. I recently read John 14-18 where Jesus has a personal, last conversation with His disciples before He leaves them and goes to the cross.

Life is filled with good-byes. Before each of my three oldest kids left to go to college, I gave them a journal I had been writing for them since the day they were born. It was filled with memories, hopes for their future, and words of encouragement. I wanted it to make them feel loved and to give them confidence for facing the future. Jesus as well had very specific things He wanted to speak to His closest followers. He shared such tender things as "Peace I leave you; don't let your hearts be troubled or fearful" (John 14:27) and "Until now you have asked for nothing in my name. Ask and you will receive, that your joy made be made full" (John 16: 24). It is especially touching to me that instead of being focused on what He would face in a few hours, He was focused on communicating words of hope, peace, and direction to those He loved most.

The amazing thing is that these words are just as much spoken personally to us today! Take time to read a bit of what was on Jesus' heart in His final day and allow His words to inspire you.
