Lessons from Jesus-2 - Sunday September 09, 2012
When they found him, they said, "Everyone is looking for you." Mark 1:37
To me, this is the ultimate Mom verse. Let's be honest: how many of us have hid in the bathroom to get a few minutes of peace and quiet while the kids are knocking on the door? Whether you are a mom or not, solitude is hard to come by. At school, work, or home, we are surrounded by people, noise, ringing cell phones, and endless to-do lists.

Jesus was a pretty busy guy too. Everywhere He went there were crowds and requests for His time. Yet I have been challenged as I read the gospels of how many times He goes off to a solitary place to pray. I know this is crucial for my life as well, but I get caught up in my busy agenda, and I don't make time for it. The bottom line for me is to make it a priority and to schedule it in my planner just like any other important appointment. It takes me a while to quiet my mind, but it is so good to read and journal and pray and to get God's perspective on my life.

If we just stop for a moment, we can hear Jesus inviting us: "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly" (Matthew 11:28-30 TM). Do all that you can to find some moments of solitude with Him this week!
