Lessons From Jesus-3 - Monday September 10, 2012
He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together... Colossians 1:17
A while back I put together a little quiz for my girl's high school life group where they matched up their names with their meanings. Abigail means "father's joy." Taylor means "a tailor." All of us managed to get that one right on our quiz!

I read a devotional recently that listed some of the names of Jesus-Shepherd, Savior, Prince of Peace, and others. It suggested journaling about which name meant the most to us right now. The one that touched me was Alpha and Omega-the Beginning and the End. Jesus is there at the beginning of every big life event from graduation to new careers to marriage to having children. He is there at the beginning of every dream and every big decision we need to make. He is at the start of everything.

Jesus is also there at the end. This is comforting for me as a person who doesn't like change very much. He was there when I held my dad's hand and watched him pass from life to death. He will be there when we put our daughter Jill on a plane to start a teaching job in Honduras. He will remain constant when nothing else in life stays the same. And not only is He the Author of the beginning and end of my story, He is there on every page that comes between. He guides my every step, and I never have to face anything alone. Spend some time today thinking about His names and titles and reflect on which ones you need to experience most in your life right now.
