It's Too Good To Be True - Monday October 07, 2013
"I will bring you to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you for a possession; I am the Lord." So Moses spoke thus to the sons of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses on account of their despondency and cruel bondage. Exodus 6:8-9
"It's too good to be true," Olya insisted as we discussed God's love and forgiveness found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Olya was a college student from Belgorod, Russia, and she interpreted for our mission teams for several years. After our conversation, Olya overcame her doubt and gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ within the next year! Her husband Andre also asked Jesus Christ to be his Savior and Lord shortly after Olya did.

The Jews had been enslaved and oppressed for so long that it was difficult for them to believe that life could ever be better. They had been subjected to cruel slavery for so long that they could not imagine that freedom was even possible, and therefore, they did not listen to Moses. Their despondency controlled them as much as Pharaoh and their Egyptian taskmasters had. Moses seemed to be speaking about a children's fantasy.

We can feel the same despondency because of our slavery to sin. Pride, drugs, alcohol, greed, pornography, and other forms of selfishness can control our thoughts and actions. We are all addicted to sin at birth! The Bible says, "By what a man is overcome, by this is he enslaved" (2 Peter 2:19). The good news is that Jesus Christ can set anyone free and give them hope! Believe in Him! Ask Him in faith to set you free. It is not too good to be true!
