Here Comes the Bride - Saturday October 10, 2015
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16 NIV
And I don't even know her name

But I'm praying for her just the same

That the Lord will write His name upon her heart

'Cause somewhere in the course of this life

A little boy will need a godly wife . . .

(From Somewhere in the World Today)

Wayne Watson wrote the lyrics to that song, and 28 years ago I began praying them for my son Nick. Today that prayer will be answered as he marries a young woman who loves Jesus with all of her heart and whom I cannot wait to have as a daughter.

Prayer is one of the most powerful privileges and resources that we have. For what are you being persistent in prayer? Are there needs that you continually lift up for someone's salvation or healing? Do you have personal requests to find a job or a mate or to be more effective in ministry? Romans 12:12 gives us practical instruction: "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer" (NIV). We have hope because we trust the situation to a God who is loving and controls the universe. We can be patient because, although we struggle with waiting, we know that God's timing is perfect. And we can have assurance that our faithfulness will have results-whether the answer is yes, no, or wait.

Twenty eight years ago as I began praying for Nick, God already had this day planned out. When Nick kisses the bride today, I will be rejoicing not just for him but also in a God who hears and answers prayers and loves to bless us.
