Cat in the Cupboard - Wednesday October 15, 2014
The sins of some men are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins follow after. 1 Timothy 5:24
Bizarre things happen. Summer a year ago it was worms on our kitchen ceiling. Last spring, it was a ghost cat. Our son Daniel and his wife Kim had in quick order returned from Taiwan, found a job for Daniel, and bought a house for their family of four (expanded to five the day after they moved in). But there was a problem.

Cat droppings kept appearing on the newly-cleaned carpet. A cat lady had lived there before them and seemed to have left a ghost cat behind. But the droppings were real! Their friend Stasi promised to solve the problem and arrived at their house armed with cat treats. On a hunch she checked out the wooden, enclosed base of the old, non-functional Jacuzzi in the master bedroom. With some prodding, a cat sped out the open door, zoomed around the room, and disappeared back into the structure. A quick chase to the basement found him hiding in the dry sump pit where he was extracted with gloves and donated to Animal Control.

Do you have a cat hiding in your cupboard? I remember the pamphlet I read as a child, My Heart, Christ's Home (it's on the internet!), where the Lord asks permission to clean out a locked hall closet. With sorrow the homeowner passes over the key, letting the Master haul putrefying, gross things out of that space and thoroughly cleanse it. Some sins are hidden, but their odor isn't, like cat poop on the carpet. Are you coddling a secret sin? Confess it to God (and others, if you need to), and let the Lord set you free from the source of shame.
