Special Indeed! - Saturday October 31, 2015
Praise be to God . . . who has blessed us . . . with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Ephesians 1:3 NIV
"Trick or treat!" That familiar call at our doors each Halloween beckons us to guess who we will find standing outside. Will it be a princess or a super hero or the more traditional monster or ghost, seeking a treat? At the end of the evening, when the fun is done, the candy is eaten, and the costumes and masks are shed, the magic of the evening dissolves into the reality of everyday life.
Why is it that kids so enjoy "dressing up"? When costumes are donned, something special happens. Suddenly that boy is a powerful protector, able to perform amazing feats of strength. That girl is now a ravishing beauty, able to capture the heart of her prince. They are transformed from their everyday state into someone extraordinary.
Growing up and becoming an adult doesn't change this longing. We all have a deep desire to be extraordinary-to be someone who truly makes a difference in this world.
For most of us, our small offerings in the grand scheme of life seem pretty insignificant and often go unnoticed. But who we truly are in the Lord's eyes should encourage us in our real value. If you are a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, here are just a few things that make you truly significant: You are an adopted child of the King of the Universe-royalty! (Ephesians 1:5). You are a temple of the Holy Spirit who helps and empowers (1 Corinthians 3:16). You have unique gifts and serving opportunities created by God (Ephesians 2:10). You have reserved standing in God's forever kingdom (1 John 5:11-12). You are special and significant indeed!
