'Hot and Cold' Game - Thursday November 06, 2014
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 NIV
She was sitting at the picnic table, absorbed in conversation with my husband Dave when I approached her and sat down. Born in China, this young lady left her homeland and traveled all the way to Ames, Iowa, where she attended and recently graduated from the university.

Raised in a non-religious family, this student was eager to explore different religions. She had attended a Bible study for some time and was familiar with Jesus and His claims. She felt she had gathered all the information that she needed and found beneficial regarding Christianity, and was now ready to explore other world religions as well. Her intention was to accumulate all the positive offerings from each religion and apply those to her life.

As she talked, I couldn't help but think of a game that I played as a child-the Hot and Cold Game. This game involves hiding an object, then directing children to the object by using the words "hot" and "cold." If they are far from the hidden item, they are "Cold!" and if they are almost walking into it, they are "Hot!"

In the case of this young Chinese woman, the "hidden item" was Jesus, the One who is truly the way to relationship with God. Dave and I proceeded to recount our own personal life stories with her, emphasizing relationship with God through Jesus. Though she did not respond to Jesus that night, we rejoice in her seeking. We pray that she will discover that all the other religions are "cold," and that Jesus is indeed the way, the truth, and the life.
