Sin is Fake - Sunday December 13, 2015
Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops. Luke 12:2-3 ESV
You may have read the news stories concerning the Ashley Madison website. Sadly, it is a dating website that targets married people who are looking to have an affair. A few months ago hackers broke into the website's servers and stole their information. Now, millions of people (who were either openly or secretly looking to have an affair) have been exposed. People have analyzed the data from the site's "profiles" and determined that many of them were falsified by workers at the company to get more traffic.

Imagine if you could go back in time, and a friend told you he wanted to use that website's evil services. You said, "Don't do it! Every person who uses that website will someday be exposed. Your sin will be published across the internet." That would stop most people.

But let's say that didn't stop your stubborn friend; he still wanted to use the website. So you said, "OK, listen to me. Not only will your sins be publicly exposed someday, but many of the profiles on that website are fake!" You would hope this second warning would stop him.

Do you realize that this is the lesson for every sin our heart craves? Ultimately, all of our sins (secret and public) will be exposed. Sin is "fake," and it never satisfies long-term. Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (NIV).
