The Lost Gift Card - Monday December 21, 2015
For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
It was twelve days before Christmas, and my friend was busily baking cookies to share when she got the call. A friend of hers had been shopping in a nearby town and after purchasing a $100 gift card discovered that she had misplaced or lost it. Could my friend go back with her to the store to see about cancelling the card or securing another one?

After a disappointing and unfruitful trip to the store, the two decided to swing by a gas station that the friend had stopped at on her way home. They both knew in their hearts that that card was probably long gone. To their great surprise, however, as they approached the pump the woman had used, she exclaimed, "There it is!"

Sure enough - the gift card with the big green Christmas tree design was lying in the slush, covered with car tracks.

God not only protected the card from being noticed and picked up, but He also guided these women to the very place where it lay! Talk about a party at the pump! They were jumping for joy!

Jesus told a story of a woman who lost a valuable coin in her house. After careful cleaning and searching she delightedly found it and called her friends and neighbors to rejoice with her. In the same way, God states that all of heaven rejoices when one lost sinner repents and is found.

It is an amazing thing to ponder the lengths God goes to show His intimate care for us. How fitting to remember Jesus' words explaining the purpose of His coming to earth - "to seek and to save that which was lost."
