Share in His Birthday - Friday December 25, 2015
I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the peopleā€¦. A Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 NIV
When I married into my husband's family, I soon discovered that my father-in-law Leon had a birthday on Christmas. Now to some people that could be a real bummer, having the attention divided between Christmas festivities and your birthday celebration. Leon, however, discovered early on in life that everyone felt a little sorry for him and made it a special point to remember him with gifts, cards, and cake, producing a doubly fun day for him.

A sweet Christian friend of mine considers Christmas her birthday in a different way. One Christmas many years ago she was a college student unable to spend the holiday with her family. Sitting alone and miserable on Christmas day, she sensed the Lord calling to her, reminding her of His sacrifice for her on the cross. She responded in faith, was born again, and has ever since rejoiced each Christmas in the very special gift she received that Christmas Day.

In a sense, Christmas can be very much like the best of birthdays for all of us who know Christ, for it celebrates the day that God sent His Son into our world as a unique and priceless gift to mankind. His is a gift of love that restores relationship with the One who knows and loves us best, and it is an ongoing gift that will never be outgrown, become outdated, or fade away.

Whether your Christmas day is filled with joyful celebration or perhaps loneliness and sorrow, remember that the Giver of good gifts reaches out in love through the gift of His Son and invites you to share this special day with Him!
